After a considerable hiatus, I stumbled upon an exceptional young-adult novel that not only boasts a compelling and engaging plot but also places significant emphasis on the intricate relationship between its main characters. This relationship, denoted with a capital ‘R,’ takes center stage.
When Katy seeks directions from her neighbors, a seemingly casual encounter leads her to a strikingly attractive guy clad only in jeans, leaving her momentarily speechless. As the narrative unfolds, something within Katy transforms, evolving from a reserved bookworm into a confident young woman unafraid to assert herself both verbally and physically. The interplay between Katy and Daemon, the charismatic neighbor, proves both perplexing and captivating. While Daemon initially exhibits a penchant for rudeness, circumstances compel them to spend time together, unraveling unforeseen revelations.
Katy’s internal musings about Daemon and her attempts to convince herself of her disdain add depth to the story. Daemon’s internal conflicts contribute to complexity—whether to save Katy and unveil his family’s secret or allow her to confront peril.
The narrative provided ample laughter reminiscent of teenage enthusiasm, making the story thoroughly enjoyable. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the evolution of Katy and Daemon’s relationship.

Description:
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.
