I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review on Twitter, diving into it without prior knowledge of the book or the author. The cover, featuring a single light bulb against a theatre backdrop, immediately caught my attention with its originality.
As a non-native English speaker, I faced some challenges with the Scottish dialect. Despite this, the book turned out to be a captivating read. While not a page-turner for an overnight reading session, my curiosity about Fiona’s choices kept me consistently engaged.
Fiona’s initial affection for Patrick was charming, but the introduction of Sean added a layer of complexity. Though my initial bias favored Patrick over Sean, the story unfolded in a way that made me appreciate both characters. The resolution at the end left me satisfied with the outcome.
With around nine main characters, the narrative primarily unfolds through the perspectives of three, especially Fiona. While I anticipated more involvement from the ghost character, its limited presence didn’t significantly impact the overall experience.
As I warmed up to Sean’s character, my sentiments towards Gavin, one of Fiona’s cast mates, shifted. The author skillfully paired characters, building on existing sparks and introducing new dynamics influenced by the mysterious town of Loglinmooth.
One standout aspect earning the book extra points was the ending. A satisfying conclusion that neatly tied up loose ends and explained the introduced mysteries showcased the author’s adept storytelling.
While I anticipated finding some flaws, the book exceeded expectations, keeping me engaged without any skippable pages due to boredom. However, the constant intensity made the book emotionally draining. Nevertheless, I consider it a perfect read and commend LeeAnne for her marvelous work.
