New day, new start
It’s Friday and we have to get up pretty early so we have enough time for today’s adventure. But first, we’re going for breakfast. It’s served in the hotel next door, which is under the same owner I suppose. A crew member asks us if we want a coffee and runs to prepare it. Meanwhile, we find ourselves a table and go to check the buffet. There are fresh baguettes, ham and salami, and cheese. There’s also jam, eggs, some veggie and fruits, muesli, yogurts and others.
For my taste, the coffee was a little bit strong but it wasn’t bad. Luckily they were offering also OJ.
After delish breakfast, we headed toLa Rambla where is Columbus Monument. On our way there we stopped at well known Mercado de la Boqueria. I saw so many videos before we went on this trip and I was so excited to see it on my own and I don’t regret a bit. I love markets with fresh groceries. Here you can buy fruit, veggie, meat, cheese, fish, spice and many more. It’s magical there.
It’s early morning and still a little bit cloudy so the view from the Monument isn’t perfect. But still, we can see the whole of Port Velland most ofLa Rambla. Next time I’ll go visit this monument, I’ll choose a later hour when the sun is already up. What is interesting about this monument? Columbusis pointing to the sea (somewhere near the city of Constantine, Algeria) but not to the America which he discovered. Oh and when we were buying tickets there, we got to talk to a really nice lady who pointed us to some spots tourists have no idea about… But I will mention them later 🙂
We also walked around Pablo Picasso’s house, but we didn’t want to pay any more money so we didn’t go inside. What was actually interesting was El Born Centre de Cultura i Memória. It’s a huge house and inside there are foundations of some old buildings. When you are there, it’s like you’re transformed to some archeologic place. Somewhere in Egypt or the Middle East but under the roof. At least it felt like that to me.
Parc de la Ciutadella of Barcelona
It’s almost lunchtime and right behind El Born Centre is a park. As usually, we have with us our guides (books) so we are looking where we are. The guide tells us that we are inParc de la Ciutadella. In the park, there should beJardins Fontseré i Mestre. AlsoUmbracle del Parc de la Ciutadella and Museu Martorell. Across the park we seeCastell dels Tres Dragons. Instituto Público Verdaguerand Parliament of Catalonia are across each other. And of course Cascada Monumental. We are walking through park. Admiring mandarine trees and little green parakeet you can hardly see in the grass. They are the same green color. And then we see it. Cascada Monumental in front of us. It’ so huge and so beautiful. I saw many cascades in the past (even the one in Versailles in Paris) and this one is one of the best. Simply beautiful. Now we just have to find some bench on the sun. It’s not so hot in the shade. It’s time to have some lunch as it’s already lunchtime and we’re not done with Barcelona today yet. 🙂
